Regular Events

Rush
Rush is the week-long recruitment of new members that happens at the beginning of each semester. Through the process of rush, individuals who are interested in potentially joining BYX get the opprotunity to meet the Officers, the Brothers, and other people who are considering joining.

Historically, rush has included events like a poker tournament, a formal dinner, and a cookout. Usually events will start around the first week of classes. Please note, that BYX is not a member of the Interfraternity Council, so their rules, dates, and regulations regarding rush won't apply to our events. Please be aware that this website and the BYX Officers are the only official source of information regarding BYX Rush.

Socials
BYX Regularly holds socials with sororities at UGA. Our social calendar changes from semester-to-semester, but we typically have two to four social events with sororities each semester. In an effort to help our members hold to our core values, all socials are alcohol prohibited. If your sorority is interested in holding a social with BYX, then please contact us! The individual responsible for social events on our Executive Committee is the Vice President.

Service Projects
Our service is the way we give back to the community and is also method for fostering unity and growth. Each semester BYX participates regularly in service organizations in or around Athens. For the past several semesters, we have held regular brotherhood service events with Sparrow's Nest and Athens PB&J, two service organizations local to the Athens area. We are also very involved on campus when service opportunities arise.

In addition to these fraternity-coordinated service events, brothers will also serve with their own service event from time to time as well. If you would like to contact us about a service opportunity you have, please use the Contact Us page to get in touch with the Officers.

Fundraising Events
BYX will typically host several fundraising events throughout the semester. The funds towards these will usually go towards our Island Party budget for the year, and these opportunities allow us to keep Island Party free each year for all students. Information about individual Fundraising Events is usually announced on this website and by word of mouth for a week or two preceding the event. The homepage rotation will contain promotional images for any upcoming fundraising events.

Fall Events

Tailgates
BYX holds a tailgate each Saturday morning before home football games. Food, friends, and did we mention food? Information about Tailgates is made available during Fall semester. Typically, we will be out on the Myers Quad from about 10AM until an hour before game time, when the brothers responsible for clean-up usually start packing everything up. Come by and say hello!

Formal
Formal is an annual formal dance that happens each year during Fall semester. Each year the BYX Brothers take a weekend to get away from Athens to have some time filled with fellowship, good and bad dancing, and fun. Over the past couple years we have been to the mountains of Pigeon Forge, TN and the beaches of Hilton Head, SC.

Spring Events

Semi-formal
Semi-Formal is an annual semi-formal dance that happens each year during Spring semester. Semi-formal is a one-night event, and we usually stick pretty close to Athens.

Open Party
Each year, BYX plans and organizes an Open Party if not more! This is a smaller-scale party that usually happens before Island Party each year. Typically, Open Party is more accurately equated to a house party, whereas Island Party is more like a concert party. Information about Open Party can be obtained from this website and Facebook toward the start of Spring semester each year.

Island Party
Island Party is Beta Upsilon Chi's signature event of the year. Each year, BYX brings a band to campus along with games and giveaways. In the past BYX has brought in names like Matt Wertz and Dave Barnes. Island Party happens each Spring toward the end of the semester, so be on the lookout during Spring smester for information.
